My Pedagogy
My design pedagogy emphasizes process over outcome, fostering empathy and a deep understanding of the surrounding context. Constant sketching is central, encouraging iterative exploration and refinement. I integrate immersive technologies into design education, enabling students to engage with innovative tools and concepts. I also highlight the value of learning from failed designs, teaching that mistakes are crucial for growth, ensuring they are not repeated in future work.
Design drawing
Design drawing explores various techniques like pencil gradients, shading, and pattern to create dynamic compositions. It includes line drawing, portraiture, human anatomy studies, and still life, emphasizing layout and composition.
My pedagogy integrates verbal descriptions to guide portrait drawing and drawing from sensory perception of touch which offers a unique approach, enabling artists to develop heightened awareness of form, texture, and spatial relationships in their work.
Fundamentals of Design
My method of teaching Design fundamentals encompass Gestalt principles, elements of design, and Wucius Wong's exploration of positive and negative space. Students learn the transition from shape to form, understanding how geometry evolves into three-dimensional structures. Tessellations are explored to demonstrate patterns and repetition. Drawing inspiration from nature, my pedagogy encourages students to observe organic forms, symmetry, and balance, fostering a deeper connection to natural design principles and inspiring creativity in their own work.
UI UX Design
In my UI/UX course, I guide students through creating user personas, empathy maps, and user scenarios to build a deep understanding of users. While teaching, I emphasize the importance of user journey mapping, affinity mapping, and user flow to structure seamless experiences. I integrate both low and high-fidelity prototyping, showing how to iterate effectively. My approach focuses on user research, competitor analysis to find design gaps, and incorporating user feedback to continuously improve interfaces.
History of Design
In my History of Design course, I take students on a journey from prehistory to the modern era, exploring how design has shaped and reflected different historical periods. We study the history of art, photography, industrial design, and architecture as key aspects of design evolution. My pedagogy blends theory with practicals, where students build prototypes to embody and understand the design characteristics of various historical periods, fostering a hands-on connection to design history.
Color Fundamentals
In my Color Fundamentals course, I guide students through tones, tints, and shades, helping them understand how colors interact and affect perception. We explore color schemes, color psychology, and the significance of colors across different cultures and geographies. My pedagogy emphasizes hands-on learning, with students creating interactive color wheels to visualize and experiment with various schemes.
Graphic Layout Design
In my Graphic Layout Design course, I teach typography, grid systems, and the various types of print media, emphasizing their role in creating cohesive, effective layouts. My pedagogy encourages self-reflection, where students made pamphlet about their own work sharing personal insights and motivations.
Sensorial Interactions
In my Sensorial Interaction course, students explore senses beyond vision to creatively portray a day of the week. Through hands-on activities, they engage with the sense of touch by experimenting with various textures, sounds, and smells, deepening their connection to non-visual experiences. This multisensory approach encourages to foster innovative ways to express concepts, while enhancing their ability to create sensory-rich experiences.
Photography
I taught photography under the mentorship of renowned photographer Phil Gomm, where students explored techniques like freeze frames, pictorialism, and the effects of light on long exposures. We emphasized photography as a powerful medium for self-representation, encouraging students to express their identities through their work. Students also gained hands-on experience by clicking photos for a magazine, refining their skills in composition, storytelling, and capturing images that resonate with diverse audiences.
Material Exploration
In this course, students engage with a variety of materials like clay, wood, and metal scrap to craft unique art pieces. I encourage hands-on experimentation, allowing students to explore the properties and potential of each material. Through this tactile process, they learn to transform raw materials into meaningful creations.
Film and Media Appreciation
In Film and Media Appreciation course, students analyze films to understand key elements like cinematography, color schemes, production, post-production, and composition. By watching diverse films, they explore how filmmakers use visual storytelling techniques to convey social messages and evoke emotions. The course encourages critical thinking about the role of media in shaping culture, while enhancing students’ appreciation for the art of film
Storyboarding
In my Storyboarding course, I guide students through visualizing narratives by breaking down scenes into key moments. Using a hands-on approach, I introduce the basics of storyboarding and its importance in fields like film, animation, advertising, and user experience. Students work collaboratively to create storyboards, even without advanced drawing skills, as the focus is on translating text into visuals. Through group exercises and discussions, students explore how storyboarding enhances ideation and storytelling across disciplines.
